Special Edition: Brain Injury Awareness Month (3/12/26 Newsletter)

Happy Brain Injury Awareness Month! This week, we are doing a special edition of our newsletter to share a bit more about our organization and what we have going on this month.

Concussion Alliance Brain Injury Awareness Month Events

Join us for Brain Injury Awareness Month!

Brain Injury Awareness Month is a great time to learn more about how brain injury affects people’s lives. In honor of this time of awareness building, Concussion Alliance is hosting some events:

  • Concussion Advocate Training Workshop, March 18, 2026, 1pm PT | 3pm CT | 4pm ET

  • Virtual Happy Hour & Community Q&A, March 30, 2026, 3pm PT | 5pm CT | 6pm ET

Our Concussion Advocate Training will teach concussion care basics, from what to do in the first 48 hours after a concussion to how to seek care for persisting symptoms. We will also discuss common myths and how to use our Navigating Your Concussion guide.

Our Virtual Happy Hour and Community Q&A will give you a chance to learn more about people’s experiences with concussion and brain injury in a more informal, conversational format.

Register here. To learn about opportunities from other organizations, see below.

Thank you for being part of our community!

We are excited to share our 2025 Annual Impact Report. We saw amazing growth in 2025, and we are grateful to each of you for being part of this journey.

Our Annual Impact Report starts with the overarching ideas that drive our work, then covers some personal stories and the measurable outcomes we saw in 2025.

Please give it a read, and feel free to share it with your community or let us know your thoughts!

A few highlights:

  • We had over 231,000 website visitors in 2025—80% more than 2024!

  • Our internship alumni have ended up in top graduate school programs.

  • We have connected with more healthcare professionals, medical school students, and other public health organizations than ever before!

Concussion Alliance Co-founder advocates for TBI legislation at the U.S. Capitol

Malayka was invited by the Brain Injury Association of America to be the State Lead for Washington State during the organization's Capitol Hill day on March 11. Approximately 250 delegates from 35+ states made visits to their state’s senators and representatives to tell their personal stories and make three specific asks: reauthorizing the Traumatic Brain Injury Act, which lapsed 18 months ago; launching a Brain Injury National Plan of Action; and joining the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force.

Stay tuned next week for a more in-depth debrief of Malayka’s time in Washington, D.C., at the Brain Injury Association of America’s National Brain Injury Conference and Awareness Day and the North American Brain Injury Society annual conference.

Brain Injury Awareness Concussion Ally Campaign

As we support and champion this community during Brain Injury Awareness Month, we’re asking those of you who are able to support us in turn to become a Concussion Ally by pledging a monthly donation. Our goal is to welcome 10 new recurring donors this month; we hope one of them is you.

When you set up a recurring monthly donation, you create steady, reliable funds to make a difference in the lives of people recovering from concussions and the advocates and healthcare providers who support them.

We know not everyone can donate to organizations, but for a small organization like ours, a little goes a long way. Even $10 a month, not much more than an expensive latte (after tip), helps us keep our resources free, accessible, and up-to-date for the tens of thousands of concussion patients, advocates, and healthcare providers who need them. You can also set up monthly giving through your employer's donation-matching programor with your donor-advised fund.

Opportunities from Other Organizations

Wednesdays, 5 pm ET: ECHO UHN Traumatic Brain Injury program. The next session, Assessment and diagnosis of children/youth concussion, is on March 4. Register in advance.

March 20–22: Love Your Brain Summit: Holistic Healing After Brain Injury. A 3-day online conference for patients, caregivers, and providers, centering on evidence-based holistic therapies for brain health and healing, including neurofeedback, trauma-informed mindfulness, gut-brain health, and non-invasive brain stimulation.

Ongoing: Love Your Brain Online yoga, mindfulness & education programs. These six-week programs run in April, July, and October. Participants may choose between group discussion programs and yoga and discussion programs. There are also affinity group programs for caregivers, BIPOC, athletes, and other communities.

Call for participants: The Defense Health Agency and Veterans Health Administration are looking for concussion patients to share their experiences in a 2-hour virtual focus group on Friday, March 20, at 1 p.m. ET. Participants will discuss their experiences living with and recovering from concussion and provide feedback on a new clinical practice guideline. The deadline to register is Thursday, March 12, at 5 p.m. ET. To qualify, participants must have been diagnosed with concussion, be at least 18 years old, and get most of their concussion care at a military hospital or clinic.

Call for participants: If you live in Nova Scotia, you may be eligible to participate in a study on disparities in concussion education and recovery protocols within Nova Scotia's Black populations. Working at Acadia University with Dr. Colin King, Master's of Kinesiology student Michaela Dankwa is looking for adults of African, African Nova Scotian, and Caribbean descent, as well as professionals who work with these communities, to complete brief, one-on-one interviews about their experiences. While the study focuses on the lived experiences of Nova Scotia’s Black population, anyone 18+, regardless of racial and ethnic backgrounds, is welcome to complete the questionnaire and contribute to this research.
