Alan Bauer

In a 27-year career at Progressive Insurance, Alan Bauer held multiple senior executive leadership positions spanning insurance operations, product management, technology, international business, direct marketing, and advertising. In these roles, he led initiatives that connected insurance operations, technology, marketing, and emerging Internet-based distribution. Midway through his career at Progressive, in 1995, Alan built the world's first Property and Casualty Insurance website, pioneering the internet as a platform for insurance distribution and customer engagement. Soon thereafter, Progressive Insurance completed the world's first online sale of a Property and Casualty insurance product.
Since his career at Progressive Insurance, Alan has advised a broad range of domestic and international insurance clients. He first served for one year as McKinsey & Company's outside head consultant for insurance, and subsequently he continues to advise consultants as an independent contractor.
Alan served on the Board of Trustees for Carleton College for 16 years, contributing long-term leadership and governance experience to one of the nation's leading liberal arts colleges. Before this role, Alan served on a Wikipedia board committee, bringing his business and organizational perspective to the governance of a major global technology and information platform.
Alan has an MBA from the University of Chicago, with concentrations in Finance and Accounting, and a BA from Carleton College, with majors.
