Maya Chawla

Summer 2023 Science Writer Intern

Western Washington (Canada) ‘24

Maya’s update for 2026:
My time in the Concussion Education and Advocacy Program taught me lots. The program strengthened my commitment to empowering others through evidence-based education and shaped the way I interact with science communication and journalism as well as my own writing. I have also found it fulfilling to highlight concussion in the performing arts and the role of physical therapy for concussion care, topics I find particularly meaningful. I was challenged to put my knowledge and advocacy into practice during the last year of my undergraduate studies, where I had the honour of being a Varsity Trainer through Western University's Athletic Injuries Practicum. Now, I am a Registered Kinesiologist in the Rehabilitation department at Parkwood Institute. The same passion for education that sparked my interest in Concussion Alliance guides me in my practice as I strive to create a safe, constructive and empowering environment while helping navigate individuals through recovery, and learning so much every step of the way.
