Summer 2021 Science Writer Intern

South East Technological University ‘21

Chelsea was born and lives in the Republic of Ireland. She is an avid volunteer and has a huge interest in community development. She has always had a huge interest in pre-hospital care and has been a volunteer since 2009. Since the age of nine, Chelsea has been immersed in community work and initiatives. She loves being involved and advocating for change both locally, nationally, and internationally.

Chelsea completed her Bachelor of Art (Hons) in Health Promotion in 2021. During her education, she has been personally affected by concussion and post-concussion syndrome. Through that, she has been able to understand the effects a concussion can have on an individual.

As a result, she decided to complete her undergraduate dissertation to research and conduct experiments in this vital area; her dissertation is titled “Simulation as a tool to uncover the under-researched effects that a mild traumatic brain injury can have on an individual’s ability to perform activities of daily living – Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) the hidden pandemic.’’

Chelsea is completing a Master of Science in Mental Health Practice for Children and Young People at South East Technological University. She is also working as a Volunteer Coordinator in an Irish mental health charity and as a Recovery Education Facilitator with Mental Health Ireland.

In her free time, Chelsea enjoys kayaking, volunteering, exploring, walking her dogs, going to the beach, and meeting her friends.

Chelsea was a science writer on the Concussion Alliance internship program in 2021 and hopes to continue supporting the organization in the future.
