In an article for Contemporary Pediatrics, Dr. Kevin D. Walter from the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, and Dr. Mark Halstead of St. Louis Children’s Hospital in Missouri and the Washington University School of Medicine discuss some effective treatments for dealing with concussion symptoms in children.

In the interview, they discuss myths in concussion treatment, when to prescribe medication, and the use of tests like Fifth Edition Sport Concussion Assessment Tool (SCAT5) to immediately analyze the severity of incidents. With knowledge of concussions changing quickly, pediatricians must have a variety of up-to-date tools to treat this young and injury-prone age group. Dr. Walter says that concussions are “a common injury that pediatricians see all the time in their practice, but there’s still a whole lot of misinformation and myths in the media.”
