Overview: Alternative Treatments for Concussion and Post-Concussion Syndrome

 

 

There is a flood of research and new information about innovative treatments for concussions and Post-Concussion Syndrome. 

We are doing our best to vet these treatments and provide links to credible information. Our goal is to point people to resources, but we can't pose solutions.

We've found that having options to try provides much-needed hope for people struggling with lingering concussion symptoms and post-concussion syndrome.

 

Light Therapy (Photobiomodulation)

A new treatment being developed by researchers and clinicians utilizing LED light devices which are placed against the head and beam red and near-infrared light into the brain. LEARN MORE

Craniosacral therapy is one of the most effective treatments that we've found for post-concussion syndrome, with only a few treatments making a noticeable, positive difference. LEARN MORE


Massage

Massage therapy is sometimes recommended by doctors to help alleviate tension patterns in the neck and shoulders related to the initial concussion. Massage can also be helpful to reduce PCS related symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia. LEARN MORE


CBD

Current research is pointing towards CBD-heavy strains of cannabis serving as a neuroprotectant, possibly helping the brain heal from concussions. Concussion patients are using CBD oil from hemp or marijuana products (vape, tincture, etc.) with a high ratio of CBD to THC. LEARN MORE
